How Are Those Resolutions Doing?

Forget new years resolutions, even goals…. Yes, that’s right.

Think instead about what quality of life means to you. What is a fulfilling life in your mind? What do you not want to go to your grave without having done, or experienced?

Think about that – contemplate, meditate or journal about it.

For your journal prompt, you can start with asking yourself ; What are my top 5 (or 3)  priorities in life? Are simple pleasures a part of your list? What’s the top highest priority?

Then pay attention over the next month, how much time you spend each week within those priorities. You can even make a chart if you like doing that sort of thing.

Are you living your life to the fullest? Are you fulfilled? Do you know the feeling of living well? What would your life be if you did?

What are you waiting for?

Consider the words of ― Eckhart Tolle; The Power Of Now

“It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.”

It is said that we only live once, when in reality we only die once.

Sadly, far too many of us don’t live while we’re alive. Some people spend their whole lives waiting for this… or that. Waiting until they have enough money, or time, or until they have something they think they need, before they can take action on whatever it is they would like to do in their lives. Or something they want to start doing for more peace or balance, or always had an interest in. For some of you, this may be starting a new lifestyle practice, or even spiritual practice.

Such as, “I’ll start a meditation practice when I can get a good quality meditation cushion and a few books on meditation”

or

“I’ll start eating better once I have more money, or the time to find fresh organic produce, or get a good quality ….. Whatever kitchen gadget you think you need to eat healthier. “

We all do this on some level. Big or small.

Much like waiting for the fruit to be just right on the tree, and it ends up spoiling on the ground, having never been eaten. Having never tasted that sweet fruit because they were waiting for the perfect time.

Can you think of a time you have put something off, only to wish you had started sooner? When have you put off starting something that you were passionate about, waiting until the timing was just right, only to find the right timing had passed without you realizing it.

Some people put off parenthood until everything is perfect to bring a child into their lives, while this is a good decision to take seriously, you may end up having a difficult time conceiving as we age as well.

“Go For It” as the athletic ads state. Because, the time will pass anyway – you CAN begin even without being in the perfect position, or having all you think you need; be it a physical item or education… start that passion, that practice, that endeavor. Do not let the time pass without at least trying to live your life to the fullest.

Give yourself grace, you’re not expected to know everything, or be perfect when you start something new. Also know that you are not alone, you can call in your spiritual team, your own spirit guides and/or the god (or goddess) that feels right and true to you, to assist you on this journey.

If you do make some mistakes, (and you will) know that its in the mistakes where valuable lessons are learned. Lessons you cannot learn from a class or course.

Practice may not make perfect, but it does bring progress. While it’s true that sometimes we really do need something to change in our lives to get to that point we want to be. You can start just changing your mindset, meditating on it, praying about it – journaling about it. Rather than thinking that you can’t until something changes… How about saying to yourself, ‘I  will do what I can now, with what I have where I’m at.’

Once that ball gets rolling, momentum usually picks up and you WILL be living your life to the fullest sooner than if you waited.

So I ask you…

What do you want to do with your life? I mean, what are you really passionate about? What in life are you putting off? What are YOU waiting for?

The time is NOW, you CAN live your life to the fullest! Even if you can’t fully start right now, you CAN start the ball rolling towards your dreams, your passions in life, and THAT will help you to feel that you ARE living your life to the fullest, moving in the direction of your passions rather than putting them off. This fosters self-love, and self confidence.

It doesn’t even have to be anything big, maybe you’re passionate about living a calm, simple life. If life has always been loud, chaotic or out of control, living your life to the fullest may mean a routine, predicable, simple life. What can you do today to start? Practice meditation? Make a commitment to yourself to take a walk alone (or with a loved one) once a week. Make a list of priorities and what you’re doing or could be doing. Book a few Hypnotherapy sessions? there’s always something you could do, right now.

What will you do, wait, hope and wish . forget about it or put it in the back of your mind….or start that ball rolling?

Live your life NOW because the time will pass anyway, and as time passes, so does your life.

Use This Technique To Live Your Future Life Now!

Have you heard of future life progression?

There are techniques in Hypnotherapy known as regression therapy. The Hypnotherapist will guide you into a state much like a dream state. Relaxing the physical body, quieting the conscious mind, and directing the subconscious mind to take you back to a place or time. This is often in childhood to help release blocks, forgive yourself or others, or to have a silent conversation within your mind’s eye with your past self, or another from that time in your life. I have found this to be very beneficial for myself, and my clients.

Another regression technique is Past Life Regression (PLR). Two of the most prominent names of this therapeutic approach are psychiatrist Dr. Brian Weiss and Doloras Cannon, founder and creator of Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT). In this technique the hypnotherapist gently guides you back in your mind’s eye to a past life. Which can be beneficial in many ways.

Both Dr. Brain Weiss and Dolores Cannon have several books, if you would like to learn more.

However, have you heard of Future Life Progression

A few quotes and sayings relating to this; If you can see it you can be it, if you can dream it you can do it. As above so below, as within so without.

“The way we experience the world around us, is a direct reflection of the world within us” – Gabrielle Bernstein

Inner Changes absolutely create outer changes. You don’t have to have the answers to how it will happen, or even know what you would like your future to be.

With hypnotherapy we go deep within your subconscious to gently release blocks and obstacles that may be holding you back. This will open doors, and allow you to be aware of opportunities and paths you may not have noticed before. We ask your subconscious mind, your inner wisdom, to guide you towards the best path for you.

Future Life Progression

Some steps you can take on your own right now, is to look at a photo of yourself as a child, or even a younger adult, and ask them to tell you where they see themselves in 5-10 years. Ask what their biggest dreams are. Close your eyes, or keep looking at the photo and imagine how they may have answered such a question. You may want to do this in meditation or by journaling.  So often we will get answers by just writing out a question, or a statement and then free hand, or free flow the writing (sort of an automatic writing exercise) You may be surprised at the results.

Meditation.

Are you one of those people that feel like you can’t meditate or have tried meditation to no avail?

So many of us have heard how important it is to meditate, or how life changing it could be. Just as many of us have had a hard time, even with guided meditations to quiet our minds at all.

I have been meditating for years. The times I needed it most were the times it was the most difficult. In the beginning I had to work myself up from guided meditations to focused meditations to quiet still meditations.

I am now able to just sit quietly and still my mind. However I still will do a focused meditation or a guided meditation. They all have their place and differences.

If you’re one of those people who always has some mental chatter going on, your mind always has some internal dialog, you may not be able to just decide to be quiet and have that “work” Then you feel that you just can’t meditate. I hear it almost daily, “I can’t meditate” or “I tried and it doesn’t work for me”

Let’s discuss what meditation is, and different types.

According to merriam-webster dictionary

Meditate:

  1. To engage in contemplation or reflection.
  2. To engage in mental exercise (such as concentration on one’s breathing or repetition of a mantra) for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness.

Nowhere does this definition mention quietness or stillness. I’m sure some definitions in other places do mention a quiet or still mind.

We tend to think of a guru in the lotus position, maybe even up on a mountain top, in robes with a long beard, or bald head.

Meditation, in my mind, is more about inward reflection, or attention. There are no hard and fast, black or white rules to meditation. You do not have to sit in a certain position, you don’t even have to be still. Many people get caught up in doing it “right”.

One of my own paintings of a hiking trail.

Walking meditations or even some forms of music/sound therapy, and art therapy have a lot to do with meditation. When I paint I absolutely lose myself in the process. I’m not a great artist but I do get a lot out of the process of putting paint on canvas. You can be so focused on something, that you go into a meditative state, and you forget the time, or what’s going on around you while in that focused activity. That is absolutely a form of meditation. Walking a labyrinth is a known type of walking prayer, or meditation, but walking anywhere can be as well. Focus on a candle flame, an image or a word is also a form of meditation. Focusing on your breath is another very well known and valid form of focused meditation. Guided meditations are where you are listening to a recording, or a facilitator talk you into a state of relaxation (much like the beginning of a hypnotherapy session. I’ll get into how hypnotherapy and guided meditations differ in the next article)

So, in a guided meditation, you are following directions and able to relax by focusing on the instructions to soften and smooth your muscles, drop your shoulders, take a deep breath ….. etc. Once you know how that feels and are easily able to go into that relaxed state, you are better able to give yourself the directions, and once you get there, to let go. Even for just a bit, to hold onto that feeling. Then you may be able to do a focused meditation on your own. Light a candle and just focus on the flame, or hold a picture in your mind or a word. Such as a butterfly, an animal or a flower or the word love or peace. Pay attention to your breath or your heartbeat.

Do not beat yourself up, or get frustrated when another thought enters your mind, this is perfectly normal. Notice the thought, rather than resist, or push it away. Just allow the thought in, and let it go. If it helps, you can imagine the thought on clouds, and watch them come in, and float or fade away, or on a leaf floating down a stream, and being carried away.

It’s the expectations and frustrations that keep us from continuing with meditation practice.

I hope this article has helped you some. Like most other things that are worthwhile, it takes patience and diligence to get to where you’re comfortable and it just comes natural for you.

If you have any questions, or are interested in hypnotherapy to help you experience that quiet still mind or deep relaxation, maybe for the first time ever, contact me for a free consultation.
